NATIONAL HEALTH INSURANCE CLAIMS DATA

This data provides factual information regarding patients’ distribution in Korea. It is derived from the HIRA (National Health Insurance Review and Assessment) database, counting the number of national health insurance claims submitted from all types of hospitals and clinics in Korea. It has four different sets of data: The 1st and 2nd set of the data present insightful multichannel analysis of the patient distribution, including age, gender, types of hospitals and clinical department that the patients visit for a specific disease. The 3rd set of the data provides detailed regional distribution of the patients, to show which district has the most number of patients. The last set of the data shows secondary diagnoses of the patients claimed under the targeted indication as primary diagnosis.

To search the data, please enter the code from the 3rd level to the 5th level.
For the codes of the 4th and the 5th levels, please enter the code without a period. e.g.) C34.0 → C340 / C34.00 → C3400
The 3rd level codes include the number of patients diagnosed with the 4th and the 5th level codes.

This page does not provide infectious diseases and rare diseases managed by the Korea Centers for Disease Control&Prevention.

Secondary diagnoses includes patients claimed as primary diagnoses.
Some consecutive age groups may have overlapping patients due to the methodology of age calculation in Korea.

Some patients may be presented in more than one type of medical institution if they visited more than one hospital.
Some patients are presented in more than one department due to their visits to a multiple number of departments.
Some patients are presented as both inpatients and outpatients.
Some patients are presented as both surgical and non-surgical patients.

Regional distribution is based on the patients who visited hospital, general hospital or tertiary hospital, and some patients may be presented inmore than one district.
The number of patients or medical institutions less than three from each district is not allowed to provide due to the personal data protectionlaws in Korea.

Some patients may have more than one secondary diagnosis.
